Is 3 Still the Magic Number?
Three years ago on this day, I moved my blog here to Tumblr. At that time, it was a bit scary as I gave up a locked-in audience at Blogger. In that case, my gamble paid off as I have been rewarded with a loyal audience the size of which is still growing beyond my wildest dreams.
However, this third anniversary is yet another scary time as it comes right on the heels of Tumblr’s acquisition by Yahoo…something made even more frightening as Yahoo has just basically told the entire Flickr community to go fuck themselves with a generally horrible redesign that has no real attraction for either photography enthusiasts much less the tablet generation that Yahoo wants for its advertisers.
Whether or not I will be here for a fourth anniversary is a good question. Yahoo’s behavior over the past week has been interesting to say the least. As for their promises not to fuck up Tumblr…well, having used various Yahoo services going back to when they were still marginally relevant and observed the company’s behavior for those many years, I don’t really trust them all that much. I hope I am wrong but my spider-sense is tingling on the type of thing where I am more often right than wrong.
Just know this…I am going to proceed in a damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead manner and enjoy Tumblr to its fullest while it lasts. I don’t intend to give up here until the pooch is officially screwed. After all, once Tumblr is ruined, where else is left for an ethical porn blogger to go?

I might have to take back what I wrote earlier tonight about Yahoo and Tumblr.
For those unaware, the reaction to Yahoo's redesign of Flickr in that service's official forum was probably as close to 100-percent negative as possible. While on Twitter tonight, I noticed that "the new flickr" was trending (at least in Los Angeles). I took a look at it expecting to see some funny comments on how badly people hate the redesign. What I saw was as much of a love-fest under this Twitter topic as there was a hate-fest in the forum.
However, as I scrolled through the tweets, I noticed a lot of similarities in their wording and overall content. Then, I found the section of tweets shown above…and those links do all go to the legitimate, complimentary story at Time's website.
Is Yahoo not only buying friends like Mitt Romney did on Twitter in 2012 but also getting them to tweet that the new Flickr is great in order to counter the overwhelming grief they have taken for the redesign on their forum, here on Tumblr, and elsewhere? Make your own conclusions but, to me, it sure looks like Marissa Mayer still had a few dollars in her purse and spent it on what I call a "bot trend." If that is indeed the case, we can throw out any trust we have in Yahoo no matter what David Karp says or does. I just hope some journalist noticed this and follows up on it as, of course, nobody's going to pay any real attention to a mere porn blogger on Tumblr.

A Few Words about Yahoo Buying Tumblr
1. Don’t panic. Remember, this is not the same management team at Yahoo that screwed up all of those other previous acquisitions. Give them a chance to learn from the 99.9% of all Flickr users now going nuts over its atrocious redesign.
2. Everybody should know by now that nothing lasts forever on the Internet except the Nigerian prince scam.
3. Tumblr was not established to be a charity. There is nothing wrong with them or Yahoo wanting to make money as long as it is done in an ethical manner.
4. The key thing to watch over time will be what Yahoo does with the data it will inevitably begin collecting on Tumblr users. If they begin to act like Google, that will be the time to bail.
5. If you are still worrying about this, unless you are already using AdBlock with all settings engaged and accessing Tumblr via Tor, in the words of George Carlin, “Calm down, have some dip.” Don’t ruin the goddamn party before it’s truly over.
